“Anna Hammer” - hammer made in Anna Koplik’s Tongs, Hammers, and Other Slammers, an 8-week spring concentration at Penland School of Craft. Tool steel, oak handle, woodburning. On one side, the eclipse, an oak leaf and acorn, and the dara knot, symbolizing oak roots and strength. On the other is scribed “made during the eclipse april ‘24 Penland Spring Concentration in Tongs, Hammers, and Other Slammers with Anna Koplik” - as someone who has collected many antique and vintage tools and items over the years and wondered at their stories, I like to include the stories of some of the things I make directly on their bodies. I had to tool up to create this hammer by making my own punch and drift for the eye, and then used those tools with striking assistance from Anna, Mia Donalson, and Nina Yao. April 2024.
